Governance & Ethics- In pursuit of sustainable growth, our organization emphasizes strong corporate governance as a foundation for responsible decision-making and socio-environmental alignment. Led by Founder and Chairman, Mr. Sam Cherian Kumbukattu, a passionate advocate for cleaning industry in India, our governance structure integrates a dedicated advisory board and sustainability committee. These bodies ensure strategic alignment and operational execution of sustainability goals through regular reviews, training, stakeholder engagement, and internal audits. With leadership rooted in the local community, we maintain transparency and accountability through monthly reporting and action plans, reinforcing our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.
We uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct across all operations, maintaining 100% compliance with fair labour practices, including fair wages, non-discrimination, freedom of association, and safe working conditions. As a Sedex member, our practices are independently verified through a valid SMETA 4-pillar audit aligned with the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code. Schevaran is committed to safeguarding workers’ rights, including freedom of association and collective bargaining, both within our operations and across our supply chain. We have implemented strong measures such as regular grievance committee meetings, health and safety initiatives, and strict verification of age documents to prevent child and forced labour. Risks related to child labour, forced labour, discrimination, and corruption are addressed through defined procedures, with zero cases in the past years.
Materiality- As environmental challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and regulatory pressures intensify, businesses must adopt sustainable strategies to remain resilient. At Schevaran, we integrate environmental considerations into our
long-term planning through initiatives such as renewable energy adoption, circular economy practices, and sustainable resource management. Recognizing the importance of stakeholder perspectives, we conducted a comprehensive Materiality Assessment to identify key environmental and social priorities. Through structured engagement and feedback, we developed a materiality matrix that guides our sustainability efforts, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations and our organizational vision.
Workplace Wellbeing- We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace that values diverse perspectives across age, gender, and background. Our hiring practices prioritize both skill and diversity, ensuring equal opportunities for all. We support our workforce—both full-time and contract employees—through comprehensive benefits including insurance, healthcare, retirement
provisions, and fair compensation aligned with human rights standards. Training is provided free of charge during paid hours, and all employees are covered under the same policies for working hours and overtime. By promoting a culture of respect, empowerment, and well-being, we create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
Occupational Health & Safety- We are committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment through a robust Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), aligned with ISO 45001:2018 standards. All worksites are covered under this system, with regular monitoring of air quality, noise, temperature, and ventilation. Our approach includes proactive hazard identification, risk assessments, and comprehensive training. Employees and contract workers benefit from health check-ups, insurance coverage, and access to medical services. Energy Management- Schevaran is dedicated to sustainable energy practices, utilizing a balanced mix of grid and solar power to meet its operational needs. The company powers various functions such as lighting, air conditioning, production, and maintenance systems through efficient energy management. With a strong focus on environmental responsibility, Schevaran is actively pursuing industry-recognized sustainability certifications and has implemented initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint. Backup power systems ensure uninterrupted operations, while 16.2kW on-grid rooftop solar installations support the transition to renewable energy. Regular monitoring and maintenance of energy-intensive equipment further enhance overall efficiency, reflecting the company’s commitment to a greener future.
Water Management- We are committed to responsible water management across our operations, sourcing water sustainably and ensuring efficient usage and treatment. Wastewater from domestic and process sources is treated through soak pits and an effluent treatment plant (ETP), with treated water reused for gardening. The company has implemented groundwater recharge pits and plans to expand these efforts with a full-fledged rainwater harvesting system. Schevaran is also working toward water neutrality by educating customers, reusing treated water, and empowering communities with conservation practices. Future initiatives include installing a sewage treatment plant, conducting water audits, and building supplier capacity to manage water risks effectively.
GHG Management- SLPL accounts and monitors its Scope-1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions annually as per GHG Protocol. In its Scope-3 GHG enumeration, it included 9 categories and excluded 6 categories. Among these excluded categories, 5 categories, which are Processing of sold products, Use of sold products, Downstream leased assets, Franchises, and Investments do not apply to Schevaran business operations and one category which is the ‘End of life treatment of sold products’ will be included in the GHG inventory from the next financial year as the company is planning to apply ‘Extended Producer Responsibility’ principles in fiscal year 2024. We share our GHG report with the stakeholders internally. Scope 1, 2, and 3 were the operational boundaries of the Schevaran GHG inventory for the FY (2023-24). During the fiscal year, the transition from conventional illumination to LED, and solar power plant installation led to the reduction of scope-1 and scope-2 specific carbon emissions by 20% compared to the previous year. Also, we have a Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) approved target of 42% emissions reduction by 2030 and Net Zero by 2040 with respect to 2023-24 as base year.
Waste Management- We are committed to minimizing waste generation and managing its impact throughout our value chain. Our product cans and labels are completely recyclable, and the corrugated boxes are manufactured using recycled raw material. Both non-hazardous and hazardous waste generated at our plant is segregated at the source, stored separately and disposed as per regulatory norms. We have implemented a responsible packaging management initiative, wherein used cans collected from customer sites are evaluated for quality in our in-house laboratory. Based on the quality assessment, cans that meet our standards are approved for reuse, while those deemed unsuitable due to damage or wear are responsibly disposed of through a local recycler authorized by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Biodiversity- A strong commitment to sustainable landscaping and biodiversity conservation is at the heart of our environmental approach. Over 69% of the premises are dedicated to green spaces, showcasing a focus on eco-conscious land use. The site supports 27 tree species, 16 shrub species, and 13 herb species, spanning 31 plant families, contributing to a rich and diverse ecosystem. The landscaping practices include the use of native, drought-tolerant plants, efficient irrigation systems, limited turf areas, and organic fertilizers. Interlocking tiles are used for all walkways to enhance groundwater recharge and reduce surface runoff. These efforts have resulted in an accumulated biomass of 156.92 tons, a carbon stock of 62.67 tons, and CO₂ assimilation of 455.99 tons, significantly contributing to climate mitigation. The site is not located near any protected or high-biodiversity areas, and no IUCN Red List or nationally protected species are impacted by operations.
Responsible Procurement and Green Supply Chain- We are committed to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into our supplier management practices to ensure a responsible and resilient supply chain. Critical suppliers are selected through a rigorous evaluation process based on environmental performance, social responsibility, compliance with certifications, proximity to operations, and contingency planning. This approach helps us identify and mitigate risks while aligning suppliers with our sustainability goals. To promote ESG awareness, we conducted a webinar titled “Greening the Supply Chain” to educate suppliers on sustainable practices, carbon reduction strategies, and eco-friendly logistics. Through ongoing training, collaboration, and monitoring, our suppliers are increasingly adopting practices that support our environmental and social objectives. In FY 2023–24, we defined clear ESG criteria for supplier selection, focusing on sustainable procurement, ethical governance, and community engagement. These efforts reflect our dedication to responsible business practices and long-term value creation for both our operations and the communities we serve.

Each student received a hygiene pouch, and hand wash and laundry products were replenished regularly. At the end of the academic year, a few students were recognized for their outstanding participation and awarded prizes. Feedback from students and teachers helped us assess the program’s impact and guide future initiatives.
